How many bands refer to themselves as “the world’s greatest party band”? The B-52’s sure do, and how could they not? With huge singles such as “Love Shack” and “Rock Lobster” and so many more, their dance-rock sound has been known to get people dancing. Formed in October 1976 in their hometown of Athens, Georgia, the band played their first show at a friend’s house on Valentine’s Day in 1977. The band soon after got a record deal and released their first album, a self-titled record, with hits like “Rock Lobster” and “52 Girls” which sold 500,000 copies and lead them to their success. After this, the members released eight albums including their newest live album, “With the Wild Crowd” which was recorded in their hometown.

The band is currently touring and is going to be in Cleveland on Friday May 25, 2012 for the Great American Rib Cook Off along with Todd Rundgren, Michael Stanley and Staind.

To celebrate them coming to town, on Thursday May 24th 88.3 The Sting will be playing a Summer Marathon Series of the B-52s. The last time this was done was in 2006 but this time it is going to be better than before. Along with playing 18 hours of awesome, dance-rock sound, we will also be giving away their new live album, “With the Wild Crowd.” So be sure to tune into 88.3 FM or online at wbwc.com on Thursday May 25 for your chance to win their new live album as well as sing and dance along with the B-52’s!
