Officer shoots and kills suspect

Jessica Dabrowski Fox 8- An officer shot and killed a suspect when he refused to drop a weapon after a chase, the Akron Police Department confirmed. According to a department official, an officer tried to pullover an SUV for a traffic violation in the Firestone Park area in Akron around 7 a.m. on Thursday. A slow speed chase ensued for a few minutes before the SUV stopped on Dietz Avenue near Reed Avenue. According to police, the armed suspect ran to a backyard and tried to confront an officer. When he refused to drop his weapon, an officer on the scene fired at least one shot. The suspect was alive when he was transported to the hospital but later died, the Akron Police Department said. The identity of the suspect has not been released.
