Saffold sues PD Judge Shirley Strickland Saffold has sued The Plain Dealer for $50 million in damages. The newspaper reported last month that anonymous comments about the Anthony Sowell case, which Saffold is presiding over, were traced back to Saffold's e-mail account.
Trench collapse kills 1 in Hudson 56 year old James Wetzl died yesterday when the 15-foot-deep sewer line trench he was working in caved in. Another worker, Albert Bagnoli, was pulled from the trench alive about six hours after the collapse
Tribe home opener is a sellout The Indians announced that all 43,515 seats for Monday's opening day game against the Rangers have been sold. The sellout marks the 17th year in a row that the Indians home opener will be a sellout.

Here's a look at some of the stories we're covering today:
Record Heat Yesterday's high temperature of 85 degrees beat the record high of 84 that had stood since 1929 for April 6. It also broke the record for the most days over 80 degrees in April in recorded history. Unfortunately thunderstorms are expected to roll in today, knocking tomorrow's high down to 60 degrees.
Ohio to see historic construction spending in 2010 Boosted by federal stimulus money, Ohio will award around $2 billion dollars in transportation construction projects. Some highlighted projects include the reconstruction of the Innerbelt Bridge, work on I-75 in Dayton, and a bridge widening project on I-270 in Columbus. Get ready for those orange barrels!
Transit Police to have expanded jurisdiction on Euclid Avenue RTA police were always allowed to patrol the street along the HealthLine on Euclid Avenue, but an agreement with the City of Cleveland allows them to now patrol the sidewalks as well. This will allow them to intervene in situations that occur on the sidewalk that they were previously they could only act as good samaritans.

Here's a look at some of the stories we're covering today:
Flags ordered to half staff The governor made the order in honor of Ohio Chief Justice Thomas Moyer, who died Friday following gastrointestinal problems. Flags are to be flown at half-staff beginning today and until Moyer is buried. Funeral arrangements are pending
St. Peter Church closed The last mass was scheduled to be said by Bishop Lennon next week, but it has been cancelled amid parishioner anger. Rev. Robert Marrone celebrated the final mass yesterday, and said that the shutdown will be remembered as one of the worst decisions by the Diocese of Cleveland. Lennon has warned parishioners not to hold mass in an unapproved location such as the space they rented to continue their community service operations.
Gas prices went up six cents last week to average $2.74 a gallon for regular unleaded according to AAA. The average price in Ohio is 9 cents below the national average of $2.83 a gallon.
Indians kick off season today In what many people believe should be a national holiday, the Major League Baseball season begins today for many clubs. The Indians take on the Chicago White Sox at 2:05 PM at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.

Here's a look at some of the stories we're covering today:
Shaun Rogers arrested with gun at Hopkins The Browns nose tackle was arrested yesterday at the Concourse C checkpoint after a loaded .45 caliber handgun was found in his carry-on luggage. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, a third degree felony that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison. He could also face sanctions from the NFL. The Browns said that they are aware of what happened, but are reserving comment pending further action.
8 Sowell victims were strangled That's according to the autopsy report obtained by the Associated Press. 9 of suspected serial killer Anthony Sowell's victims also had traces of cocaine or depressants in their systems.
Protesters outside of WBWC studios 2 protesters from Brook Park showed up outside of our studios in Berea to protest the cancellation of The Morning Buzz. The only problem is, it was an April Fool's joke! The Morning Buzz returns Monday at 6 AM on 88.3 FM The Sting.

Panel recommends missing persons unit A Cleveland panel is recommending that the city add the unit in response to criticism about how the city handled the case of suspected serial killer Anthony Sowell
New license plates The "Beautiful Ohio" license plates that have been optional over the last several months will now become the standard plate design in Ohio, replacing the red, white, and blue "Sunburst" design. The new design features a city skyline, a farm, and a biplane
More talks coming at Hugo Boss The union will meet with executives of Hugo Boss to discuss the planned shutdown of the Brooklyn factory, which will result in 375 people losing their jobs. The union says that the plant is profitable.
