Here's a look at the stories we're following today: Strickland trails Kasich The Ohio Newspaper Poll released yesterday shows that Republican John Kasich has a narrow lead over Democratic incumbent Ted Strickland in the race for Governor. 51 percent of those polled said that they would vote for Kasich if the election was today, compared to 45 percent who would vote for Strickland. This comes on the heels of a report from the AP that national data doesn't back Kasich's assertion that phasing out the Ohio income tax will return money to Ohioans' pockets. 3 boys drown on the Sandusky River The boys, ages 8, 9, and 10, fell into the river near Fremont while they were collecting dead fish with a friend. Condolences to the families as well as the young man who survived. You definitely have to feel for them. Court Issues Cell Phone Ban Erie County Common Pleas Court has issued a ban on all cell phones, laptops, iPods, and smart phones, saying that Twitter-happy juries could trigger mistrials. I thought these things were already banned in courts, but I guess not. Plane crashes into Mediterranean The Ethiopian Airlines plane carrying 90 people caught fire and crashed just after taking off from Beirut. As of now, terrorism is not being considered a cause of the crash. From a candidate for state auditor to some great Ohioans, here's a look at some of the stories we're following today: Seth Morgan announces bid for State Auditor Brown is a Republican from Huber Heights (near Dayton) who is touting his experience as a CPA, saying that he wants to continue the work started by current auditor Mary Taylor, also a CPA, who is running for Lieutenant Governor. Democrats are saying that Morgan will maintain partisanship in the Auditor's office. Ohio Congressional Delegation meets with NASA chief The topic on their minds as they meet with Charles Bolden iis jobs at Glenn Research Center. They want to preserve jobs there by making sure that Glenn will continue to have a role in the moon program, which President Obama is considering cutting. Lots of late fees Ohio has issued 329,000 late fees to people who didn't renew their drivers licenses on time. The new fee, enacted in October is 20 dollars. From an upset in Massachusetts to the President's visit to Elyria, here's a look at the stories we're following today: Brown Wins in Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown came from being a 20-point underdog in the polls with a month left in the campaign to take the Senate seat formerly held by the late Ted Kennedy. This shakes up the march toward health care reform, as it eliminates the filibuster-proof majority that the Democrats have had for the last year. I have a feeling that the only person who got less sleep than the Morning Buzz crew last night was Harry Reid, who now has to either get a Republican to vote yes on health care or use tactics such as reconciliation (commonly referred to as the nuclear option), which are considered by many to be unsavory. State of the Union Scheduled The White House has announced that the State of the Union address will be next Wednesday (1/27) at 9 PM. Obama in Elyria Tickets for President Obama's town hall meeting on Friday sold out almost as soon as they were made available yesterday. In response, LCCC will be rebroadcasting the event at several locations and on their cable channel. Click here for more info. WBWC News will also have full coverage on Friday starting on The Morning Buzz. Demjanjuk Trial The trial of John Demjanjuk continues in Munich. Yesterday, a survivor of the Sobibor death camp testified that the Germans were in charge of the camp even though the camp was in the Ukraine. 82 year old Thomas Blatt said that he doesn't remember Demjanjuk, but was only testifying to give the court a general impression of Sobibor.
