Fire claims a life
Dan Jovic Fox 8- A fire at a duplex apartment in Canton claimed the life of a three-year-old girl, according to an official with the Canton Fire Department. The fire broke out just after noon on Tuesday in the 2100 block of Penn Place, according to Captain Lorenzo P. Bagley. Bagley says that fire crews responded to the scene around 12:15 p.m. and discovered thick black smoke billowing from the duplex. Two other children, ages 12 and 11, along with an adult were in the apartment when the fire broke out. Bagley says the children and the adult got out of the apartment safely. The children were transported to a local hospital as a precaution. The extent of their injuries, if any, is unknown. The fire broke out in the apartment’s kitchen, said Bagley, and a preliminary investigation indicates that human error may have sparked the blaze. Canton Fire crews remain at the scene as their investigation continues.

Waitress sews bar over uniform
CNN- A former employee of a popular Westwood bar has filed a civil lawsuit against the establishment, claiming she was sexually harassed, forced to wear a skimpy outfit and then fired when she complained. Courtney Scaramella, is suing O’Hara’s for sexual harassment, wrongful termination and unpaid wages, according to a complaint filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court on May 24. She is suing co-owner Jack Bendetti and general manager Ronald McDonnel, along with the bar itself. Scaramella, 23, said a new manager began working at the bar and required female waitresses to wear skimpy plaid schoolgirl skirts. “It wasn’t fair to me, it wasn’t fair to the other girls who were working there,” she said. “Everyone was offended by it. Nobody wanted to do it, but unfortunately, jobs are hard to come by right now and some people were stuck.” Scaramella tried the new outfit for a few days before refusing to wear it. That’s when she was fired, said her attorney, Tonic Jaramilla. “Thereafter, her hours were cut,” Jaramilla said. “She was not given the same shifts that would allow her to gain good tips and income and then she was terminated.” Scaramella — who worked at the bar since 2007 and was fired earlier this year — is seeking money to compensate her for the wages she lost and the stress she claims to have incurred on the job, according to her complaint. An attorney representing O’Hara’s owners said Sacarmella’s lawsuit has no merit and that she was not fired. The attorney claimed Scaramella quit her job for unknown reasons.

This is a special Saturday for it is "Let it go day" and here are some stories for you...
Lost wallet returned to owner after 67 years
Jen Zellers WBND- A Michigan man had his wallet returned after nearly 70 years. Warren Houghton lost his wallet in 1945 when he lived in New Hampshire. The wallet was returned to the Kalamazoo man with photos of his family, and an old letter from his sister. There was no money in the wallet, but that didn’t surprise his wife. “Oh no. There wasn’t any in there when I married him, and I said there won’t be any in there then,” Betty Houghton said. “It was unbelievable! It blew me out of the water,” Houghton said. Someone found Houghton’s wallet and his old baseball glove during construction at his one-room school house. Houghton doesn’t remember losing the wallet but he’s grateful that someone took the time to find him.
The Tribe...
Fox 8- The first-place Cleveland Indians (37-33) rode a four-game winning streak into Saturday’s afternoon affair against Houston at Minute Maid Park. But the Tribe’s bats got squeezed by the Astros (29-42) pitching. The Indians scored first when Asdrubal Cabrera smacked his ninth home run in the top of the fourth inning, but Cleveland would not score again. Jason Kipnis led the tribe with three hits, but the rest of his teammates only combined for three hits. Jenmar Gomez started for the Indians and pitched three scoreless innings, before his June swoon continued. The young righthander served up back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fifth, as the Astros rallied for five runs. Houston would add another run in the sixth, and three more in the eighth, including Jose Altvue’s fifth’s of the season, which made it 8-1, and closed out the scoring. The three-game interleague series concludes Sunday. The Indians will send Derek Lowe (7-5 4.30) to the mound, while the Astros counter with J.A. Happ (5-7 5.15). |

This Friday is "Stupid guy thing day..." I know who knew there was such a day!
RTA bus and car collide
Jessica Dabrowski Fox 8-An accident involving an RTA bus and a car sent at least two people the hospital. The collision happened at E. 116th Street and Union Avenue in Cleveland around 6:20 a.m. on Friday. According to a Cleveland EMS supervisor, the victims were taken to South Point Hospital and MetroHealth Medical Center. A Cleveland fire dispatcher also confirmed someone had been trapped inside one of the vehicles. A number of emergency vehicles responded to the accident but details on the number of people hurt and the extent of the injuries were not immediately available.
Ex charged in pizza delivery woman's death
Lindsay Buckingham Fox 8- A Rittman man has been charged in the death of his ex-girlfriend, whose body was found inside her car Thursday, officials in Summit County said. According to New Franklin Township police, 25-year-old Ashley Biggs, of Akron, was reported missing by her co-workers at 12:45 a.m. Thursday. Biggs worked for a Domino’s Pizza on South Main Street in Akron. Wednesday night, she’d been assigned to a delivery at a business on West Turkeyfoot Lake Road and instructed to go to the back door. Investigators said Biggs never came back, prompting her concerned co-workers to file the missing persons report. New Franklin Township officers went to the delivery address on Turkeyfoot Lake Road. That’s when, police say, officers found “blood” and “signs of a struggle” at the scene. Biggs was nowhere to be found. Hours later, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office alerted officials in Summit County that the body of a female had been found in a rural area, inside Biggs’ car. New Franklin Township police later confirmed that Biggs’ ex-boyfriend, Chad Cobb, 30, had been arrested and charged with aggravated murder and kidnapping in her death. The former couple has a child together. According to Akron Municipal Court records, Cobb was convicted of domestic violence back in 2005. He was sentenced to probation and anger management classes, and ordered not to have “domestic disturbances with Ashley Biggs.” |
