Why did the Cow Cross the Road?

Ted Achladis Fox 8- Just days after a pig ran loose on a Pittsburgh highway, the Post-Gazettenewspaper reports that a bull and cow also hit the road, slowing traffic when they stopped to have “relations.” Police, who told the Post-Gazette that the animals were “having relations in the road,” could not get them to stop, so Farm Bureau personnel was called to the scene in western Pennsylvania. They eventually coaxed the couple into custody.

Mother Charged for Leaving Daughter at the Play Area of a Mall

Dan Jovic Fox 8- Police in Mentor say a mother left her four-year-old daughter at a play area in Great Lakes Mall while she went shopping. Lt. Ken Zbiegien of the Mentor Police Department tells Fox 8 News that on May 30th, 37-year-old Natalie Rosca, of Mentor, was charged with a single count of child endangerment for allegedly leaving her child for an hour to go shopping at a store in the mall. Zbiegien says parents gathered at the play area first noticed the child had been left alone around 5:30 p.m. Zbiegien says the mall’s Guest Service Department was alerted and Mall Security was then contacted. A page was made on the mall’s over-head speakers for the child’s parents to return to the play area, but Rosca did not return. Zbiegien says police were then called to scene, arriving around 6:00 p.m. Rosca came back to the play area around 6:30 p.m., said Zbiegien, and told police that she had been shopping. According to Zbiegien, a sign is clearly posted outside the play area that states children are not to be left unsupervised. Rosca was arraigned on the charge in Mentor Municipal Court on Friday morning. She posted bond and is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on July 7.

When Having a Surgery this Man Found Out He's Actually a Woman

Hema Mullur, KDVR, Reporting— Steve Crecelius is a prominent local photographer. He’s lived his entire life as a man but recently discovered – he is in fact a female. “I remember wearing my mom’s clothes and makeup, very secretly, not telling anybody,” Crecelius said. From a young age, Crecelius identified more with being a female, but hid behind a male persona.“When I was 17, I was working my first part-time job at a TV station as a floor cameraman and the person in charge said to me, ‘You know, you walk like a queer.’ And I thought I was hiding who I was, and I wasn’t,” he said. About 40 years later, a revelation: “I had a kidney stone and we’re in the emergency room,” Crecelius said. “The nurse is reading the ultrasound and says, ‘Huh, this says you’re a female’.” It turns out Steve was born intersex, meaning he has both male and female parts. The diagnosis was a shock, but also a relief. “It validated everything I had always felt inside,” he said. So he decided to slowly start living as the woman he is now – Stevie. But she had more than just herself to think about. “How do you tell your kids that well, it’s no longer dad, it’s dadette?” she said. Stevie and wife Debbie have six children. “Within a few minutes, all of them said, ‘I don’t care dad; I love you for who you are’.” Nearly five years after that ultrasound, Stevie and Debbie are still together. It wasn’t always easy. “I didn’t sign on for this, but who signs on for anything?” she said. “She’s the same person she was as a he on the inside.” The two still share an intimate relationship based on more than sex or gender. “We do share a bedroom. We even share the same bed,” Debbie said. “She still relates to my heart and soul, and I still relate to hers, and I think that that’s the essence of true love,” said Stevie. With the support of her family and friends, Stevie is now living the life she’s always dreamed of. “It’s so liberating to be able to be and express how I feel inside,” she said. By sharing her story, she hopes others will be inspired to embrace their true selves the way she has. “I am the luckiest woman in the world,” Stevie said. “I don’t think that there’s any way that I could be more blessed.”

Lawmaker?

Dan Jovic, Fox 8- An Illinois state lawmaker lost his cool on the state House floor Tuesday. Republican Mike Bost was furious about a new plan to overhaul the state pension system. Bost unleashed a screaming rant on Democrats for not giving Republicans enough time to read over the latest version of the proposed bill. He threw papers into the air, yelled and even quoted Moses from the Bible, saying “Let My People Go.” This all unfolded while his colleagues looked on in stunned disbelief.

Italy's Deadly Earthquake

By the CNN Wire Staff — The death toll from a 5.8-magnitude earthquake in northern Italy rose to 17 after the discovery of another body, officials said Wednesday. The body was found in the rubble of a collapsed factory in the area of Medolla, Italy’s civil protection agency said. Italian government officials met Wednesday morning and decided on several measures that will be taken in the aftermath of the quake. The government declared a state of emergency in the quake area and also declared June 4 as a national day of mourning, according to a press statement. Also, a two-cent tax increase will be added to gasoline to help finance the recovery effort, the statement said. The earthquake forced thousands of people from their homes and came nine days after a 6.0-magnitude quake struck the same region, killing seven people. Tuesday’s quake was followed by dozens of aftershocks. The U.S. Geological Survey recorded one aftershock of 5.6 magnitude. The quake was centered in the province of Modena, near Bologna. The towns of Mirandola and Cavezzo were closest to the epicenter, civil protection authorities said. Witnesses reported on Twitter that Cavezzo was about 70% destroyed. Pictures purportedly from the town, as well as a video stream from Italian newspaper Corriere de la Serra, show damaged and destroyed buildings.

Memorial Day Murder

By Ted Achladis and Jessica Dabrowski of Fox8-Authorities, on Tuesday evening, arrested a man wanted for a Memorial Day murder. The arrest came approximately seven hours after Cleveland Division of Police Chief Michael McGrath asked for the public’s help in locating the “armed and dangerous” suspect. Cleveland Police Det. Jennifer Ciaccia tells Fox 8 News that Robert Franks, 49, was apprehended by the Cuyahoga Heights Police Department. Before his arrest, Franks was last spotted leaving a shooting scene in the 8200 block of Brinsmade Avenue on Monday. That’s where Jeffrey Antal, 56, was found shot to death in the backyard of a home. Franks left the area on a silver-and-red bicycle with a red milk crate attached, police said.

Man Bitten by Rattle Snake

KTLA -CNN Affiliate- A 76-year-old man is home from the hospital after he was bitten by a rattlesnake while protecting a little girl. Nick Karnazes was leading a field trip for a group of 4th graders in Irvine Regional Park when a rattlesnake began to posture near a 9-year-old girl. Karnazes got between the young rattler the girl. He was bitten twice on the hand. Amazingly, Karnazes did not initially call 911. He continued the hike, but then started to feel fatigue after about 20 minutes. “I started getting a tingling sensation, so I knew I better go to a hospital and get this taken care of,” Karnazes said. He spent three nights at Western Regional Medical Center in Santa Ana. Karnazes now says he shouldn’t have waited and advises people who do get a rattlesnake bite to seek medical attention immediately.

Pregnant Woman Tasered

By Bill Mears, CNN Supreme Court Producer- A “defiant” pregnant woman who was subjected to three Taser stun gun shocks by law enforcement officers after refusing to sign a speeding ticket will not get her appeal addressed by the Supreme Court. The justices without comment rejected separate petitions from both Malaika Brooks and the Seattle Police officers sued for excessive force. The court also rejected a similar appeal from a separate plaintiff. Hundreds of such Taser-related lawsuits have been working their way through lower state and federal courts, but the Supreme Court so far has refused to address the issue of what the officers call “a useful pain technique.” The cases are Daman v. Brooks (11-898); Brooks v. Daman (11-1045); Agarano v. Mattos (11-1032); and Mattos v. Agarano (11-1165).

Home Prices Lowest Since 2002

Jessica Dickler, CNN New York-Home prices hit new post-bubble lows in March, according to a report out Tuesday.  Average home prices were down 2.6% from 12 months earlier, according to the S&P/Case-Shiller home price index of 20 major markets. Home prices have not been this low since mid-2002. “While there has been improvement in some regions, housing prices have not turned,” said David Blitzer, spokesman for S&P. Although five cities — Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, New York and Portland — saw average home prices hit new lows, that’s an improvement from last month’s report, in which nine cities notched new lows, Blitzer noted. In 13 of the 20 cities, average home prices fell in March from the year before. Atlanta fared the worst, with home prices down 17.7% year over year. Home prices in Atlanta, Cleveland, Detroit and Las Vegas are all below their January 2000 levels. Alternatively, Phoenix posted the largest gain, with prices up 6.1% from last year. Other cities showing an uptick included Dallas, Denver and Miami. Overall, the 20-city composite is down about 35% from its peak in 2006. Experts say affordable mortgages, combined with much lower home prices, should help to bolster the housing market. “It’s probably the best time to buy a home in decades,” said Pat Newport, an analyst for IHS Global Insight. “But the problem is that unless you have good credit, you are probably going to have trouble qualifying for a loan,” he added, referring to overly tight lending conditions. Last week, a report by the National Association of Realtors showed that home sales jumped in April. Sales of new homes were also higher in April, according to a separate government report.
