Today is "May Ray day" so for Saturday's stories...
Terrorism?
(CNN) — Three men charged with conspiring to commit domestic terrorism during the NATO summit were plotting to attack President Obama’s Chicago campaign headquarters, the Chicago mayor’s home and police stations, authorities said Saturday. A police investigation that began early this month revealed that the three suspects are “self-proclaimed anarchists” and members of the “Black Bloc” group who traveled together from Florida to Chicago to commit violence as a protest against the NATO summit, authorities said in a statement. “Black Bloc” was the group blamed for violence that occurred in recent “Occupy” protests, such as in Rome last year when anarchists in ski masks torched cars and clashed with police and even other Occupy protesters. The three men were planning to destroy police cars and attack four Chicago police district stations with destructive devices as a way to undermine police response to other planned actions at the NATO summit, according to a statement by Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez and Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy. Downtown Chicago financial institutions were also among the proposed targets, authorities said. An Illinois judge set bail at $1.5 million for each of the three suspects: Brian Church, 22, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Jared Chase, 27, of Keene, New Hampshire; and Brent Betterly, 24, who told police he resides in Massachusetts, authorities said. The three men were charged with material support for terrorism, conspiracy to commit terrorism, and possession of explosives or incendiary devices, authorities said. According to authorities, Church said he wanted to recruit four groups of four co-conspirators — or 16 people — and that reconnaissance had already been done on the Chicago Police Department headquarters. The three men also possessed or built improvised exposive or incendiary devices, a mortar gun, swords, a hunting bow, throwing stars, and knives with brass-knuckle handles, authorities said. In court, prosecutors accused the three men of preparing for “violence and destruction,” such as stockpiling Molotov cocktails. But a defense attorney called those accusations “propaganda” and contended authorities “infiltrated” a peaceful group and set up the three men. The three defendants stood expressionless in court, each handcuffed behind the back. A couple dozen of their supporters in the courtroom could be heard faintly scoffing at prosecutor Matthew Thrun as he called the defendants “self-proclaimed anarchists … making preparations for violence and destruction.” Thrun said one of the defendants could be heard planning an attack and quoted him as saying, “this city does not know what it is in for, and it will never be the same.” According to Thrun, the defendants bought gasoline at a BP station, cut bandanas for fuses, and had four empty beer bottles to be used as Molotov cocktails. Thrun told the court that Church made a remark while assembling the Molotov cocktails: “Ever seen a cop on fire?” Defense attorney Michael Deutsch accused authorities of “police misconduct,” saying undercover agents infiltrated a “peaceful” group. “They even bought the makings of Molotov cocktails and gave it to them,” Deutsch said in court. The judge set the three defendants’ next court date for Tuesday. On Sunday, NATO kicks off its two-day summit in Chicago, and the war in Afghanistan is expected to dominate discussions. Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Pakistani President Asif Zardari are both expected to attend the meeting. NATO leaders are currently on a timetable to withdraw all of the alliance’s combat troops from Afghanistan in 2014.
The Tribe
The Cleveland Indians showed their support for the students and staff of Chardon High School today at Progressive Field. The team honored Chardon High during pregame ceremonies with an on-field parade. Then, Chardon Superintendent Joseph Bergant II threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Tribe took on the Miami Marlins. In addition, the Indians gave each student and staff member four tickets (4,800 total) to today’s game. The tribute comes nearly three months after 17-year-old T.J. Lane allegedly opened fire inside of Chardon High School, killing three students and wounding two others–one critically.

Woman and Toddler found Dead in Cleveland
Fox 8 — A woman and a toddler are dead following a strange series of events on Cleveland’s east side, where authorities say an argument led to a fatal stabbing that led to a fatal car accident. Cleveland Police Sgt. Sammy Morris tells Fox 8 News that, according to a preliminary investigation, the incidents occurred at approximately 9:10 p.m. Thursday when two women in a parked vehicle started to argue. Things got heated to the point where one of the women — Kimberly Black, 29, of Cleveland — exited the vehicle, went into her house and returned with a weapon. She then proceeded to cut Sharice Swain, 29, of Cleveland, several times to the face and neck. Black then removed her clothing. Black’s children, ages 1 and 2, joined their mother outside of the home located in the 3000 block of East 125th Street. Swain, seriously injured, was in the driver’s seat of the vehicle still parked in Black’s driveway. At some point, Swain stepped on the gas pedal, striking the two kids and a house. The children were transported to Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, where 2-year-old Kimshia Ruffin died. The 1-year-old, Taraji Ruffin, is currently being treated for injuries not believed to be life-threatening. Swain was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she expired from her injuries. Black, who fled the scene on foot, was later taken into custody in the area of East 123rd Street and Soika Avenue. After she was apprehended, Black was conveyed to Metro, where she was treated for a hand injury before being placed under arrest. She is now being held in the Central Prison Unit awaiting charges.
Bono "World's richest musician?"
(CNN) — According to a new report, Bono could wind up with the title of “world’s richest musician” when the stock markets close today. NME indicates that the Irish rocker is poised to surpass even Sir Paul McCartney in terms ofwealth – and all because of Facebook. Bono reportedly owns 2.3 percent of Facebook’s shares through his private equity firm, netting him a possible $1.5 billion now that the company has gone public. He supposedly bought the shares for $90 million back in 2009, and the company has grown mightily since then to be currently valued at over $100 billion. The $1.5 billion share Bono’s equity firm owns could make him more wealthy than the current – or shall we say former? – richest rock star in the world, Paul McCartney, who’s said to have an estimated fortune of just over $1 billion, reports Gossip Cop. And it appears that famously charitable musician Bono will only be adding to his wealth this year: his band U2 is said to be planning a comeback album and working on new material with Swedish songwriter Carl Falk, among others. A source told NME that the group’s “back in the studio getting a feel for new material after the last album, ‘No Line On The Horizon’. Will.i.am had a credit on that and they are looking to explore that direction further. They have been working with Danger Mouse and RedOne. They are excited about getting to work with Carl Falk.”
The Cleveland Division of Police Homicide and Accident Investigation units continue to investigate. The official causes of death will be determined by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office. |

Well for this Thursday I hope you are thirsty for some news :)
On "World Information Society Day" the big story is...
The Queen of Disco
(CNN) -- Donna Summer, the "Queen of Disco" whose hits included "Hot Stuff," "Bad Girls," "Love to Love You Baby" and "She Works Hard for the Money," has died, a representative said Thursday. She was 63. Her publicist, Brian Edwards, said Summer was suffering from cancer. She died surrounded by her family in Florida, he said. "Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith," a family statement said. "While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time." Summer first rose to fame the mid-'70s, thanks to "Love to Love You Baby." The song, with Summer's whispered vocals and orgasmic groans helped define the mid-'70s disco trend and hit No. 2 in 1976. Summer followed the song with such hits as "I Feel Love," "Last Dance" and a disco-fied version of the Richard Harris hit "MacArthur Park," which outdid Harris' version by hitting No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart. It was Summer's first of four chart-toppers. It wasn't until 1983's "She Works Hard for the Money," which became a ubiquitous video as well as a big radio hit, that Summer's fame approached its late '70s zenith. The Recording Academy, which presented five Grammys to Summer, said she "had a dynamic voice and unique musical style that helped define the dance music genre in the '70s.'" "She also was an artist who crossed many musical genres, as evidenced by her Grammy wins in the R&B, rock, inspirational and dance categories," Recording Academy President Neil Portnow said. "Her talent was a true gift to the music industry, and our thoughts and sympathies are with her family, friends and fans throughout the world during this difficult time." "I don't like to be categorized because I think that I am an instrument, and if you play me, I'll make whatever particular sound is supposed to come out for that color," Summer told CNN in a 2008 interview. "And so, in the overall spectrum of things, I'm just trying to be true to my -- what I feel my mission is." Hollywood publicist Michael Levine said he was hired in 2002 to help Summer "rebrand and reinvent her image." "She was a victim of her own success," Levine said. "The disco diva imprint was so great that she wanted to break beyond that." "She would always bring a gift when she came to our office, which is not common," he said. Celebrity reaction to news of Summer's death was immediate. "I can't believe we've lost another wonderful singer," Dolly Parton said. "Donna, like Whitney (Houston), had one of the greatest voices ever. I loved her records. She was the disco queen, and will remain so. I knew her and found her to be one of the most likable and fun people ever. She will be missed and remembered." Chaka Khan said she was Summer's friend for three decades. "She is one of the few black women I could speak German with and she is one of the few friends I had in this business," Khan said. Summer moved to Germany in the early '70s to perform in several musicals. "I was shocked to hear about Donna," singer Barbra Streisand said in a statement released by her publicist. "She was so vital the last time I saw her a few months ago. I loved doing the duet with her. She had an amazing voice and was so talented." "She will be terribly missed. She was truly the #Disco Queen!" Singer La Toya Jackson said in a Twitter posting. "We will miss Donna Summer! She changed the world of music with her beautiful voice and incredible talent," Janet Jackson told Twitter followers. "Whitney. Tina Marie. Vesta. Now Donna Summer. The choir in heaven has a new member. They will be singing up a beautiful storm:)" actress Niecy Nash tweeted. "Rest in Peace dear Donna Summer. Your voice was the heartbeat and soundtrack of a decade," music producer Quincy Jones tweeted., "I thought she was a very gracious and a very nice person. Always beautifully gowned and well spoken. I liked her," said legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin. "A very good singer. We won't forget all those many hits she put out there. You know, 'Bad Girls' and 'Last Dance' and all the hits. We won't forget those. My heart goes out to her family and to her friends and fans. It's really a sad day. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Summer's honor to the Salvation Army.

What's up on Wedensday? Well...
A Real Life Corpse Bride
(CNN) -- She was found still wearing the shimmering silver cocktail number she wore to celebrate her wedding. She was as bright as the sequins on that dress. Young. Beautiful. But within two days of saying, "I do," she was dead. Police officers in the suburban Chicago town of Burbank found Estrella Carrera, 26, in the bathtub of the condominium she planned to share with Arnoldo Jimenez, 30. She had been stabbed multiple times. "This was a brutal murder," Capt. Joe Ford, spokesman for the Burbank Police Department, said Wednesday. "There is some aggression, obviously." Police found no signs of a forced entry into the condo on Rutherford Avenue. They were searching Wednesday for Carrera's husband. Jimenez is the prime suspect in his young wife's murder and is wanted on a first-degree murder warrant, police said. The last time anyone saw the newlyweds was at 4 in the morning Saturday when they got out of the limo and headed back home to their condominium in a nondescript three-story brick building. About 36 hours later, police found her body after responding to a call from a family member concerned that there might be something wrong. Carrera had failed to pick up her two children, ages 2 and 8, as scheduled the day before. Family members tried to contact her and Jimenez on their cell phones. No one answered. Jimenez was last seen driving his black 2006 Maserati sedan, a car that Ford estimated was worth between $50,000 and $60,000. "It's a pretty expensive car, without a doubt," Ford said. Such a car raises eyebrows in Burbank, a blue-collar community that is ethnically mixed. Police said thought and prayers go out to Carrera's family, especially her motherless children. Meanwhile, Ford said, police will keep "peeling the layers of the Jimenez onion."
Tie at the Top for the Valedictorian of this High School
(NBC) -There won't be just one valedictorian at Ocala, Florida's Vanguard High School. This year, there could be 25. As the countdown begins to the June 8 graduation, school officials say the students are on pace to earn all As in college-level courses, earning 5.0 weighted GPAs. It's not the first time Vanguard has had multiple valedictorians. There were 11 last year. The only issue facing school officials is deciding who will deliver the valedictorian speech at the graduation ceremony. The 25 candidates were asked to submit a speech to a committee, which will select a winner later this month. All of the valedictorian eligible students will be recognized and they will receive a prestigious silver plate once they walk across the stage. Vanguard High School is ranked 23 in the state in the US News and World Reports' Best High School list.
And just for kicks and giggles today is "National Sea Monkey Day!"
